Messy Beaks Bird Toy Safety Info & Guide

✅ MATERIALS SAFETY 

  • All toys are made of bird-safe materials:
  • Stainless steel (NOT zinc- or lead-plated)
  • Untreated natural wood
  • Vegetable-tanned leather
  • Bird-safe rope (hemp, sisal, or cotton in safe conditions)
  • Paper, palm, or natural fiber shreddables
  • No toys contain cheap plastics that can break into sharp pieces
  • All dyes used are non-toxic and vegetable-based 

✅ TOY SIZE & BIRD MATCHING 

  • The toy is the appropriate size for your bird
  • Small birds (budgies, lovebirds, etc.) only get lightweight toys
  • Large birds (macaws, cockatoos) get durable, chew-proof toys
  • No parts can be easily swallowed or broken into sharp bits 

✅ RISK CHECK 

  • No long strings, ropes, or threads that can entangle feet or neck
  • No exposed bell clappers (they can be swallowed!)
  • No loose or sharp metal parts
  • No holes or gaps where toes or beaks could get stuck
  • Toys are hung securely with no falling hazards 

✅ INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE 

  • Inspect toys daily for wear, fraying, or damage
  • Frayed ropes are trimmed or replaced immediately
  • Damaged toys are removed right away
  • Toys are cleaned regularly with bird-safe cleaners
  • Toys are rotated weekly to keep your bird engaged

  • Always supervise your bird with new toys the first few times
  • Use foraging toys to keep your bird mentally stimulated
  • Avoid overcrowding—your bird needs space to move and climb
